12 Volts is a red wine from VT Mallorca produced by the 4 Kilos winery in Felanitx. “4 Kilos”, slang for 4 million pesetas, was the initial investment Francesc Grimalt and Sergio Caballero made to start the winery: a modest sum for the sector that proves good wine is made not with lots of money but with passion and ambition for quality. 4 Kilos practises rational, very environmentally friendly farming with minimal intervention. They use native ground cover with a large microbial population to ensure good biodiversity in the vineyard, and enjoy a mild Mediterranean climate with dry, hot summers and little rain. 12 Volts is made from the native Mallorcan varieties Callet and Fogoneu together with other red varieties. The grapes come from vineyards farmed with rational, low-intervention viticulture. All the grapes were harvested by hand. At the winery they were macerated and fermented in stainless steel tanks, starting at 20°C and then allowed to rise to 28°C. Maceration lasted about 20 days, followed by malolactic fermentation in steel tanks. The final step was less than a year of ageing in 3,000-litre foudres and used 225-litre French oak barriques. According to its creators, Francesc Grimalt and Sergio Caballero, 12 Volts is a red wine that connects with your nervous system and recharges your batteries. If you do not know it yet, you are missing out on more than this transfer of energy: 12 Volts is pure vitality! A burst of good Balearic vibes in which the Mallorcan varieties Callet and Fogoneu embrace Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, creating a fluid, fruity wine with a long, pleasant finish.
