In the vast world of ornithology there are millions of birds, each with unique features that set it apart. The thrush (zorzal in Spanish) is known for its melodious song, which often rings out in the early hours of the morning, at dawn. Its song is distinctive and, in some species, can be heard even before sunrise, which has earned it a certain reputation as the “singer of the dawn”. But beyond its song, the thrush is a symbol of calm, natural landscapes, which is why its presence on the labels of the Viña Zorzal project recalls the bond of this winery from Navarra (Spain) with the land and its respect for the natural environment where its vineyards grow. The project was founded in 1989 by Antonio Sanz with the aim of making his own wines in the region, and since 2007 it has been run by his three sons, who inherited the same passion for wine passed on by their father. Built on authenticity, simplicity and respect, Viña Zorzal has made its emblem soar, earning well-deserved recognition around the world. Its Viña Zorzal Crianza is a blend of the native Garnacha variety with a small share of Graciano from vineyards in the Navarra towns of Corella, Cintruénigo and Fitero: old vines farmed organically with a philosophy of minimal intervention. In the winery, the selected grapes are destemmed, crushed and fermented with native yeasts in 10,000-litre stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation then takes place in 225- and 300-litre French barriques, where the wine rests for 2 years before being bottled unfiltered and unfined. With Viña Zorzal Crianza, the Sanz brothers not only pay tribute to their land and family heritage but, like the thrush, awaken the senses with a unique, lingering melody, inviting everyone who tastes it to enjoy a wine full of character, tradition and respect for nature.
