Iñaki, Xavier, Mikel and Rafa are not just a family: they are also a team in the Viña Zorzal project. To their commitment to staying united as a family (no small thing) they add an even more ambitious mission: rediscovering the native varieties of DO Navarra. From this wonderful union comes Viña Zorzal Garnacha Blanca. This philosophy of life and work was inherited from their father, Antonio Sanz, who passed on his passion for the vineyard and taught them that good wine is born right there, at the foot of the vine, in the field. With this principle in mind, organic farming is the only possible way to make the best wine imaginable. Viña Zorzal Garnacha Blanca grows in the family’s pre-phylloxera vineyards in the village of Fitero, between the Sierra de Cameros and the Ebro basin – one of the oldest known in the area. Some 115 years of history lie behind the Garnacha Blanca growing on stony, rocky soils with clay, limestone and conglomerates. The harvest, like all the work, is done by hand, and the grapes are taken quickly to the winery. Vinification involves minimal intervention, with spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts and no racking, filtering or fining at any stage. A 10-day cold maceration before pressing is one of the key steps. Viña Zorzal Garnacha Blanca then rests for four months on its lees in stainless steel tanks. Family, passion and craftsmanship come together in Viña Zorzal Garnacha Blanca.
